#4 HEART OF THE OCEAN has to be the play against this group tonight after a tough grinding trip last week. There is no way I can see you getting 4/1 to odds with the driver change to Yannick Gingras, but you may. She has a good amount of speed and likes to be put on the front end. #7 KATIE CAN COOK looked very impressive last week with Lewayne Miller back up in the sulky. Throughout the non-winner of two series, she has been ultra-impressive and I don't think that will change this week. #1 KEEN CAT didn't fare all that well in the Indiana Sire Stakes two starts back, she dropped down to face this group and looked very good. Expect another clean trip.
Race 2 -
#2 MAN OF FIRE could light the ticket up as there are a few positive things to look at here. He gets a pretty big driver change to Sam Widger, a much better post, and should be close to the pace. This is the longshot play of the ticket if you ask me. #5 ALASKA made a break at the start last week and turned things around grinding away on the outside to score by 2 1/2 lengths. She gets a good post here and seems to be on the upswing look for her to be on the ticket. #6 DOVER DONY is another interesting horse in the fact that he got a roughed up trip last week and still managed to just miss by 1/4 of a length. You have to think that he will be closer to the pace tonight if he can avoid breaking issues he could be in the money.
Race 3 - Pick 4 (3,4,5,6)
#11 SKYWAY QUINTON has won three of his last five starts and two of those have been at Hoosier Park. He got the perfect trip from post six in the ISS consolation which may chase some people away thinking he is a tripped out horse. The second tier might be tough, but he should be able to get around it okay. #10 ONE COOL CAT has won two straight races and handled the trip back from Goshen very well. He has a good amount of early speed, but can also rate a little just off the pace, look for him to be in a good striking spot early. #3 ROCKIN RIO has been knocking on the door as of late and could show up at a little bit of a price.
$1.00 Pick 4
10,11/2,4,5,11/1/4,6,10 Cost: $24.00
Race 4 -
#2 LOTS TO LIVE FOR has been up and down as of late, but the driver change here to Gingras is a pretty big one. He draws well to the inside and likes to be on the front end. The question here is can he control the fractions as not to get stung again. #11 JIMS PERFECT TEN got the perfect trip last week against this group and was very patient before striking late. He is a nice horse that can race from just about anywhere and has a big chance to hit the ticket. #5 BLUEBIRD RECON is a horse that I am not really sure about. They went crazy fractions last week, he sat off the pace and drew off to win easily. Be leary of the price here.
Race 5 -
#1 VOOM OR BANG has won two of his last three starts and the race he didn't win I am throwing out as she made a break. She draws the rail this week and has been improving with the addition of Lasix. #11 GW SHOW FAITH made up a lot of ground in a hurry last week coming in 27.2. She got along very well with driver Mike Oosting, look for her to be around tonight. #2 NO CHASER didn't pass anyone last week but did makeup ground in the stretch. I wouldn't use on top, but I would use her underneath.
Race 6 -
#10 BELIEVEINYOURMACH looked very sharp off the claim last week for trainer Dylan Davis. They added driver Trace Tetrick and that spelled victory even from the outside. The second tier may be a better spot for this gelding. #4 COAL HANOVER has won two of his last three starts and the race he was second in was against a very tough group of claimers. He has some game early speed that will allow him to be around to battle for the lead early. #6 DEERFIELD BEACH is another contender that handled the jump in class well last out. He had to make up a lot of ground last week to finish a strong second, expect him to be around again.
Race 7 -
#10 CASTLE FLIGHT was a winner against this group in his last start coming from off the pace. The second tier should not bother him this week as he normally likes to close. Widger has really been getting along with this gelding well. #3 REGAL HOPE won by a neck last week after making the lead, sitting just off the pace and firing late in the mile. When he flashes early speed he has been known to show up on the ticket. #7 INCREDIBLE SHARK gets Gingras in the sulky tonight, considering Burke is in the race it is interesting to me that he would be driving a different horse. That actually makes me like him a little bit more than I did before. Look for him to be positioned up front early to have a game effort.
Race 8 -
#5 OLLIE'S Z TAM showed up out of the box last week off an impressive qualifier, then put his money where his mouth was and showed up again in the Series. He gets a good post again this week and there is no doubt about who will be on top of my exotic tickets. #3 GOTTOKNOWHERNAME went to the lead last week was stung a little in the first quarter from the outside and still managed to only miss by a nose. The post improvement makes his chance a lot easier. #10 BEAUTY DESIRES came from off the pace last week and closed gamely in doing so, but got the perfect trip. My only concern was that race was from the inside, post position may matter and you don't know how the two-year-old will handle the second tier.
Race 9 -
#9 ENDEAVOR just missed off a very impressive winning streak last week after setting some torrid fractions and getting caught at the wire by Beckahm's Z Tam last years Breeders Crown champ. Tonight the post is tough, but that hasn't been an issue in the past, I expect him to be on his game this week. #6 UNCOMPRIMSING Z TAM has had a rough go of things over the past couple of weeks, Macomber back in the sulky could make the difference. #4 HEZ A DUDE A has won two straight at Hoosier Park and has really seemed to get things together. Driver change to Gingras again could be the trick.
Race 10 - Pick 5 (10,11,12,13,14)
#8 FEELIN LIKA WINNER was the easiest and most impressive of the winners from last week. He is not the speediest gelding in the world, but he really likes to close from off the pace. He is worthy of the single status here. #6 BANDERBEAR was a winner last week coming from off the pace but does not possess the final quarter speed of the other Series winner. Look for him underneath. #9 LEGAL SPIKE has proven he can hit the ticket against these. Handled the jump in class well.
.50 Pick 5
Race 11- Dan Patch Stakes
This is a very tough race for me, the question is do you bet with what you have seen or with your heart. It is obvious Lazarus N is going to be the betting favorite, but I am going to go with #7 ALL BETS OFF. He has been racing very competitively as of late and I feel like he is really sitting on a big race, look for him to be around late without the extra 1/8 of a mile. #9 LAZARUS N had a very impressive qualifier at The Meadowlands versus Pepsi NA Cup winner Lather Up and when Yannick asked him to go he took off. The only time he finished off the board was on Feb. 24 when he was 7th in 1:47 with a different driver up. He will be on the ticket guaranteed. #6 MCWICKED has really come around this year and has only missed the board once. His resume speaks for itself.
#2 BUFF'S IMAGE was a winner just geting up late in the mile last week with Oosting aboard. Something tells me we don't want to miss a price on this gelding again. #3 JACK'S A ROCKIN just missed last week and he was coming late, but just could not get around the eventual winner. He isn't the speediest gelding and is one who would rather sit off the pace. #1 ROCKY'S Z TAM got into a good early position last week from the outside and drew off to win easily. Post improvement could be beneficial.
I'm not really sure I understand the morning line on my top selection #2 DIAMOND DAGGER who drew off to win his division of this series last week by four lengths. She gets a really good draw this week, and I don't doubt her ability. #9 BLUEBIRD REVEREND has won two straight races, one of them being from the outside. He has a lot of speed and will be apart of the pace scenario early. #3 INFINITI AS was another big closer last week, look for him to be around again tonight.
#1 GLORY BEACH added the hopples two starts back and has been on the upswing ever since. Post improvement could help, but with him not being the speediest gelding around it may not play that big of a roll. #2 SUPERFICIAL got a brutal trip from the second tier last week and just did not make up any ground in the stretch. History says he will be competing against this group, let's see it happen tonight. #3 REX PASSUS was claimed last week by trainer Tim Clevenger. He picks up the driving services of Trace Tetrick and against the easier company again, I look for him to be on or near the lead at the end of the mile.
