Best Bet: #4 Webmaster Hanover Race 3
Best Longshot: #2 Mcthriller Race 8
#4 Modern Yankee draws well this week and needs last week's effort thrown out where he was parked the mile and never recovered. Yannick gets another chance here with a class drop and decent chance. #9 Ideal Romance is another class dropper that shows some pretty good Trackmaster numbers. He draws tough this week, but Napolitano should be able to use his speed to be forwardly placed. #6 Abbeylara is worth a look especially in the Pick 5 sequence coming off a monster effort last week against this group.
.50-cent Pick 5 ($25,000 Guaranteed Pool)
4,6,9/3,9/4/1,2,3/3,7,9 - Cost: $54.00
#3 Rebel Rouser has won two straight since Gingras took over the reins and a step up in class may be what this gelding needs this week. After being lightly raced as a young horse he has really come along well and should show up against this class tonight. #9 Declan Seelster has handled outside draws with poise as of late with no issues. He is a very versatile gelding by Big Jim who can race from just about anywhere. Look for him to be on the ticket. #8 JK Musicman draws tough this week but has been known to show up at decent odds. Driver change this week to Abbatiello.
#4 Webmaster Hanover added Lasix last week and I wasn't really able to tell how exactly it helped him because he didn't race that well over an off track where he is 0-3 on the board anyway. If the track is fast tonight I will for sure be interested to see how he races. #8 Master Of Puppets draws a little tough this week, but he has a big closing kick that should allow him to be in contention this week. Two starts back is the race I was really interested in as he made a slight miscue and still managed to finish second. #2 May I Cruise West was a winner at Freehold last week, and while he has yet to show much promise against the tough horses of The Meadowlands, I think he has room to improve here with a driver change to A Nap.
#3 ROCK THE NITE draws well and drops down in class like many of these this week. His start last week was actually more impressive than the line shows as he closed into a super quick pace and was caught in traffic late. Look for a better trip here. #1 Incredible Shark is by far the better part of the entry in my opinion, but the rail draw definitely makes him a contender. He can rate from off the pace and should be up front early and close home strongly. #2 Tact Tate N adds Lasix for the first time this week following a very tough effort last week where he closed home to finish sixth only beaten three lengths. He likes to be forwardly placed and normally hits the ticket when he is there.
#7 Cheyenne Reider has only missed the board once in six starts and last week he was closing like a freight train to just miss by a length. He gets a little bit better of a draw and if he is anywhere close to that effort he will be tough against this group. #9 Four Staces was a horse that I got to see at Northfield Park and he raced pretty well. I was glad to see he took to the Meadowlands surface well last week and won decisively with Callahan in the bike. Driver change to Gingras. #3 CC Big Boy Sam is another very consistent gelding, that definitely could show up against this class. My only concern with him is the ability to pass horses coming down the stretch. If he is forwardly placed watch out.
#4 Joe's Bid moves up in class tonight following a dominating win against the lower level condition last week. Andy elects to stay on this week and that could make for a deadly duo. #2 Stratocaster closed from off the pace last week after getting a perfect trip. He is another to move up in class, driver change this week to Mike Merton. #3 Redonkulous gets Dunn back in the bike this week following a disappointing effort last time out from post eight. Going to give another chance here, hoping it was a fluke.
#7 Geez Joe gets drawn outside in the Open Handicap tonight, but not because of his effort the last start, he has put in a couple 1:48 miles over the past few weeks. The only concern here is the amount of time off he has had. #5 Starznheaven has a huge closing kick and his fight to get by horses in second to none. You may get a little bit of a price here and Napolitano definitely gets along well with this horse. #6 K Ryan Bluechip is as consistent as they come and what better way to start off the year than being unbeaten?
#2 Mcthriller has been very unlucky with the post draw as of late and has been handling it well against some pretty tough company. He drops today and looks to pop with Andy Miller in the sulky. #6 Iwillmakeyousaywow has a good amount of speed to contend with and has proven that he belongs with the upper-level condition. He adds Mike Merton this week who is currently winning at a 12% clip. #1 Dull Roar draws the rail and has a little bit of early speed. He likes to hit the board at a pretty consistent rate, so he is worth a look underneath at a price.
.50-Cent Late Pick 4 ($50,000 Guaranteed Pool)
2,6/3,4,6,7/1,9/2,6 - Cost: $32.00
#7 That's My Opinion draws a little tough this week but is dropping down to face easier company and some of the fields he has been facing have not been all that easy. He has a little bit of early speed to contend with and that should make things slightly easier for him. #3 Life Happened adds Gingras back this week with a pretty hefty drop in class. He hasn't been racing that well for trainer Blake MacIntosh, but the class relief should play to his favor. #4 JK Parlay hits the board at a pretty decent clip and should not be ignored underneath at a price.
#9 Monty's Play won three straight before being defeated at Yonkers last week pretty handily. Post eight on a half-mile track is no easy task, so let's throw that race out. Look for more this week. #1 Surfing Tide has won two straight against this group and done so pretty easily. He gets a good draw and adds Andy Miller back in the bike tonight looking for another positive effort. #4 Major Authority got a tough trip last week had to grind first-over and just never fired. The post draw plays to his favor this week, looking for a better trip for trainer Jenn Bongiorno.
#2 Bright Future throw out last weeks start at Freehold over the sloppy track. Going to give another chance this week from the inside, he has shown that he can go :51 over this track and I would suspect if he repeats that effort he could strike at a price. #6 Frankandjoanne was a winner last week at Freehold where he made a move at the half-mile pole and closed home nicely. He adds Pat Berry back in the bike this week who he gets along with pretty well. I look for him to be forwardly placed. #7 So Take That likes to hit the board but isn't a horse that likes to win often. Needs more to win, but should hit the board at decent odds.
#8 Bruce's Magic has a good amount of speed and has been somewhat succesfull against this group. He draws a little tough, but with there not being a whole lot of speed in the race, I feel like he could ration the speed and control the pace. #2 Barimah A is a big closer and boy can this gelding pass some horses. He has struggled with post draw as of late and the inside may be exactly what he needs to have a succesful effort. Watch the price here. #5 Ocean Colony just barely missed last week by a nose after being stung to the first quarter. Give another opportunity here.
#7 Itsnoproblemmanhas won two straight races while being forwardly placed or on the lead. He gets a little bit of a tough draw this week but should be able to bounce back from that. Look for a decent trip here. #9 Obscene Blue Chip likes to hit the board and with the addition of Gingras once again, that only can improve his chances. He has a little bit of speed to contend with which could help combat the outside post draw. #5 Bay Rum hasn't missed the board in five starts and is a versatile gelding that can race from just about anywhere. He gets along well with Abbatiello and that can only improve his chances.
#4 Ideal Candidate has won two of his last three starts for trainer Danielle Dailey. The last two starts have been on the outside He has a good amount of speed for a thirteen-year-old and I expect him to be forwardly placed rationing out the speed. #7 David The Saint is a bit of a closer and has been known to hit the ticket at decent odds before. He was a beaten favorite last week, making the lead at the top of the stretch and then tiring late in the mile. Look for a decent effort here. #5 Western Redhot scored a nice win last week against lower level claimers for trainer Ann Depietro. The step up in class may be a little tough for this gelding, will he rise to the task?
